Though Bible names are often left untranslated in Scripture, it is instructive and important for the modern Bible student to be aware of the meanings of these names. The Scriptures frequently attach profound importance to the literal meanings of these names and readers, after learning them, will be opened to new and deeper interpretations of familiar Bible passages.

In this remarkably useful handbook, Bible scholar J.B. Jackson has carefully compiled a comprehensive list of all the proper names of Scripture, along with a literal meaning derived from the original languages. From Aaron to Zuriel, this simple yet valuable resource will enrich your study of God's precious Word.

This was recommended by Rob Skiba (on You Tube) is the reason I got it. Most Cultures give Names that have meanings. Knowing these Names Meaning give a Deeper understanding when Studying the Bible. Example Noah (Noach in Hebrew) means Comfort/Rest. Just looking at some of the Names here in this book, you will see how those names give more info r/t what was happening. Jacob and Essau ... Essau came out Red and Hairy, This is what Essau meant, Jacob was holding Essau's Heel during Birth when they came out, and Jacob means Heel Grabber. Some people names mean a Color, which may mean their skin color, hair color, but can also mean what was being seen. Some have names that mean Terrible, etc it will make one think why would someone call their child that? It can mean what the time period was like.

Hebrew Names use Hebrew Letters. Each Hebrew Letter has up to 7 ideas/meanings .... The Letter Sound, a Number, Symbols, Statement, etc and when used in a word, even a 3 letter word or name can have multiple ideas to tell us.

I use to use a lot of the usual English Bibles like KJV and others ... But more use the ISR (Institute for Scripture Research) and The HallelYah Scriptures Bibles, (sometimes I also use the Complete Jewish Bible) which this book does not work with. This is due to the 3, I use ... use the original Hebrew (and other language original Names), and this book uses the English Translations of most of the names in the Bible. Which I recommend if you use an English Bible version that uses the English Versions of Name. If one uses the Bibles I do use with Original Names, I also Recommend for your library ... for you can pull out your English Bible to see the Name it uses to see what the Hebrew Name means. The 3 Bibles I do use are English Translations, they just return the original Names used,

Knowing the meaning of the proper names adds insight to scripture. It would have been authentic to have used the original hebrew and Greek names
Great study aid, especially when researching out the long lists of names that seem to drag on. The meaning of the names can reveal some interesting revelations of God's redemption plans for all humanity throughout history. So even these "boring" lists can give us some interesting insights of God's merciful interactions with sinful humans.
This is a great reference source that has most of the major names of the Bible as far as their Biblical meaning. This book has been around for a while and has been highly recommended by others.
The seller was on the spot w/ shipping the order to me (luckily we are both from the same state) and I had this nifty little book in no time. This is a terrific resource for those of us who want to dig a little deeper in to the meaning behind Biblical names. I've always felt the Bible was a very deep, multi-layered book and the more I read the more I'm just amazed at this wonderful Book the Holy Spirit has revealed to us thru the ages. The meaning behind the names, places, etc put things in a whole new light. For the serious student, take the Jewish roots approach and things will become much clearer & richer as the customs, meanings, etc just come to life!
Was very disappointed this book did not show hebrew spelling of names. Many hebrew names in this book are butchered with english transliterations, and the bet/vet always spelled with a hard B. Example ABshalom rather then AV-shalom (correct - father-peace). I would return it, but not quite sure it's worth doing for the price. Just be warned,... here are no Hebrew names in this book. Just the english "translations".
It's okay. The book works for my purposes, but the name definitions often send you on a search through the book. (Example looked up the name Anna. The definition told me it was Greek for another name, so I had to then look up the Hebrew name in order to get the definition, so I spent a lot of time flipping pages and searching for information), which I know seems nitpicking, but when you're looking up every name in the genealogy of Christ, it gets old very quickly. More importantly, I found that the definition of the names were... Close, but not always quite right. If you can read Biblical Hebrew, you can see that often the names mean something close to what he says they do, but sometimes it's not quite the same and he misses the mark.
This is a great resource for getting a more in depth understanding of the significance of names you come across in the Bible. In particular when I did a study of the sons of Jacob, I was able to get a prophetic set of statements.
